Working In Your Gifts

Episode 045

One Friday afternoon Amy Campbell got called into the conference room at her corporate job. She was so dedicated to the company that when they told her they were going in a different direction she responded with, “Great, so where are we going?” They responded with, “That means without you, Campbell.” Totally in shock, Amy made a decision which changed her life completely.

"I think I'm just gonna get up and go to work on Monday."

Amy was (and still is) a single mother and she had been writing resumes on the side to bring in some extra income. Rather than hurry up and get married (her mother’s suggestion) or spend a bunch of energy job searching, Amy made the commitment to just keep going. We discuss how working in her gifts has turned out over the past 13 years, the empathy it created in her for those clients who come to her seeking help with their resumes, and how to be patient with your family and friends who just don’t understand what being an entrepreneur is like.

Amy is the Owner and Director of All That Happens! at The Red Checker, and principal writer at MyResumeLady.com. She can be reached through her website theredchecker.com or on LinkedIn.

Costumes

Amy suggested a 70s theme for our episode. I loved creating a vintage look complete with wooden earrings and giving my hair a chance to do it’s thang.
