The Cost of Cancer

Episode 065

At the age of 13 Tom’s son was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. During the first emergency surgery, doctors removed a softball sized tumor from the base of his brain. In this episode, Tom Walsh shares the story of his family’s journey to fight cancer and we discuss the various costs of cancer.

“Very few people emerge from cancer treatment unscathed.”

Now, 10 years later, Tom shares his family’s story to help inspire and uplift others who are fighting their own cancer battles. We discuss the impact of cancer treatments on his marriage and on his younger son. We talk about what it was like for his son to go back to high school with scars and disabilities after cancer treatment. This being a money show, we also discuss the millions of dollars in medical bills, what was covered by health insurance, what wasn’t, and the importance of having policies and plans in place before you need them.

Tom Walsh has written a book about his experience called When Hope Overcame the Impossible – An epic story of a thirteen-year-old boy who refused the death sentence of brain cancer! It’s available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and wherever online books are sold. You can reach Tom and pick up a signed copy of his book on his website www.thomasmwalsh.com or contact him via Facebook messenger and Instagram @authorthomaswalsh.

Costumes

When I asked about costumes, Tom told me he had a Superman costume he’d like to wear. After hearing his story I believe Tom is truly a super man. I opted for a Wonder Woman costume to match with the DC superhero theme.
